About SIN files

The .sin file format primarily functions as a Sony Xperia Firmware Image. It packages raw system partition data (like Android OS files and bootloaders) used by FlashTool or Sony PC Companion to flash mobile devices. Other distinct formats share this extension, including SATO Label Gallery design files, Siemens PSS SINCAL electrical network simulations, and Saber Simulator MOSFET electronic circuit models.

Working with .sin files is often frustrating. The Sony firmware variant is highly proprietary. It wraps standard .ext4 file systems or raw image data with cryptographic headers. You cannot natively browse its contents using standard archive tools, meaning you cannot extract specific system apps, inspect stock kernels, or modify the ROM without specialized, often outdated utilities. Similarly, .sin label designs rely on legacy SATO software, and viewing them without an expensive license is a roadblock.

To regain access to your data, you must convert the file. For firmware files, convert .sin to an img (Disk Image) or extract it to a tar or zip archive to mount and explore the Android file system. For label designs or text-based simulation files, convert to pdf or txt for universal viewing.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SIN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SLN, BIN, PDF, FTF, EEP, RGN, COS, COT and MYR files.

The SIN Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SIN converter.
