To convert other file formats to the "Android Firmware File" file type, you need software like Flashtool or a similar tool.
About FTF files
The .FTF file format is primarily used by Sony for firmware updates on Xperia devices. It acts as a FlashTool Firmware file containing system images, kernels, and bootloaders. To interact with these files natively, users rely on Flashtool to flash the software onto mobile devices. However, .FTF files are notoriously difficult to handle outside of this specific flashing context. They are typically massive, often exceeding several gigabytes. Because they are proprietary firmware packages, standard operating systems cannot read them directly, and they are useless for general file sharing. Under the hood, an .FTF file is simply a standard ZIP archive containing proprietary SIN (Sony Image) files. If you need to inspect the contents, extract specific system components, or patch a kernel, you face a major roadblock without the right software. For manual extraction and inspection, convert or rename it to ZIP. For device flashing, leave it as an .FTF. Drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it securely right in your browser.

The FTF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FTF converter.
