About SCT files

The .SCT file extension is heavily fragmented and serves multiple distinct purposes depending on the originating software. Most commonly, it is a Visual FoxPro Form Memo used by the discontinued Microsoft Visual FoxPro database system to store text and UI properties alongside a SCX file. Another frequent use is the Windows Script Component (Scriptlet), an executable file that stores VBScript or JScript code. In the financial sector, an .SCT file represents a SEPA Credit Transfer structured in XML (ISO 20022) for bulk European bank payments. Finally, in graphic design, it acts as a legacy Scitex Continuous Tone high-end pre-press image. The primary disadvantage of the .SCT format is its ambiguity and significant security risk. Because Windows Script Components are natively executable, cybercriminals actively use .SCT files to bypass application whitelisting and deploy fileless malware.
