The .RCT file extension is primarily associated with two very distinct, highly specialized systems: the GES3S EIC system for livestock electronic identification data, and the UK DfT Street Manager for street works reinstatement templates. In both cases, the format suffers from severe proprietary limitations. The livestock data variant is a closed database export designed only for agricultural hardware and software. It is proprietary, difficult to parse without a $50/month subscription to specific farm management tools, and generally unreadable by standard web browsers.
Alternatively, the UK DfT street works template is essentially a disguised ZIP archive containing a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. This causes extreme frustration because double-clicking the file usually results in an error message unless the user has the specific government portal app installed.
Users typically need to convert these files to CSV, XLSX, or standard ZIP archives to actually view, share, or analyze the data within them. Converting specialized agricultural data might result in the loss of proprietary metadata tags, but the core table data can often be salvaged.
Because this file format is difficult to open or convert, standard online converters fail completely. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data.
