About SABER files
A .saber file is a user-created 3D asset archive used as a custom weapon model in Beat Saber, the popular virtual reality rhythm game developed by Beat Games. These files bundle the 3D geometry, textures, lighting shaders, and collision parameters needed to replace the default in-game lightsabers. Players download these custom files from community modding platforms to personalize their gameplay experience.
The major disadvantage of the .saber format is that it is essentially a compiled, proprietary Unity AssetBundle. It is built specifically for the PCVR version of the game and is fundamentally incompatible with standalone headsets like the Meta Quest, which instead require .qsaber or .whacker formats. Because the 3D data is completely baked into Unity's closed engine structure, standard 3D modeling suites like Blender or Autodesk Maya cannot read it directly. This makes modifying an existing custom saber, or repurposing its 3D model for animation and 3D printing, highly frustrating for end users.
To edit or extract the weapon model, users must unpack the internal assets into standard industry formats. The best conversion targets are FBX or OBJ for the 3D mesh, and PNG or TGA for the external texture maps. Keep in mind that when extracting these files, you will inevitably lose the specific Unity particle effects, hit animations, and custom glowing shader logic programmed by the original creator.
Because it is a compiled game asset archive, standard online converters completely fail to process .saber files. They lack the engine-specific logic needed to unpack the Unity package structure.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SABER file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SABER file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Beat Saber or similar software from the "VR Custom 3D Model" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The SABER Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SABER converter.
