About QMOD files

A .qmod file is a specialized custom modification package designed for Meta Quest VR games. Modders use these files to distribute custom skins, custom maps, songs (specifically for Beat Saber), and gameplay tweaks (for games like Gorilla Tag).

These files are typically managed, installed, and deployed using specialized PC-to-VR modding tools such as QuestPatcher, BMBF, or the Quest Mod Manager.

Because .qmod is a specialized format intended for a specific hardware ecosystem (the Meta Quest headset), it cannot be opened natively by standard operating systems like Windows or macOS. Users without VR modding tools installed will face issues accessing the content inside. The format itself is actually just a standard ZIP file that has been renamed. Mod managers use this custom extension to automatically intercept the file and trigger the installation process when clicked.

To view, edit, or extract the contents of a .qmod file, the best conversion target is a standard ZIP archive. You can simply rename the extension to zip to extract the internal configuration files (usually a mod.json file) and compiled game libraries (DLL or SO files) using standard tools.

This file format is difficult to open or convert if you do not understand its underlying compressed structure.

Convert.Guru analyzes your QMOD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SABER, DLL and ZIP files.
