About S2 files
The .s2 file extension is highly fragmented and represents several completely different file types depending on the software environment. Most commonly, it functions as a compressed versioned text file in Perforce Helix Core, a compressed data block encoded with the Google S2 compression algorithm, or a Motorola S-record used to program microcontrollers. In gaming, it acts as encrypted save data for Slay the Spire by MegaCrit. The major disadvantage of the .s2 format is this severe ambiguity. Users frequently encounter these files without knowing their origin, and opening a compressed .s2 file in a standard text editor yields useless, garbled binary data. It requires specific, often proprietary, software to parse. For web use or archiving, you must convert these files. Motorola S-records should be converted to BIN or HEX formats for reliable hardware flashing. Compressed Google S2 or Perforce data blocks need to be decompressed and converted into TXT or DAT files to expose the underlying information.
Convert.Guru analyzes your S2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert S2 file to TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD, LOCK or PID, you can use Perforce Helix Core or similar software from the "Data Compression & Firmware Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to S2, try Perforce Helix Core or another comparable tool in the "Data Compression & Firmware Storage" category.
The S2 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our S2 converter.
