How to extract text from your MRS file

About MRS files

The .MRS extension is a "chameleon" format used in three completely different technical ecosystems, often causing confusion when standard tools fail to open them.

1. GunZ Game Data (Most Common)

For gamers and modders, an .MRS file is an encrypted, ZLIB-compressed resource archive used by the MAIET Entertainment engine, most notably in GunZ: The Duel. These files package game assets like textures, XML logic, and 3D meshes.

The Friction: These are not standard ZIP files. If you try to open them with WinRAR or 7-Zip, you will receive an "archive corrupt" error because they utilize a proprietary header and encryption system (often referred to as the "MRS header").
Conversion Targets: To edit or view the contents, you must use a dedicated "MRS Decompiler" or unpacker tool to extract the files into editable formats like XML (for game logic), BMP/PNG (for textures), or .ELU (for 3D models).

2. Clash.Meta Proxy Ruleset

In the networking world, .MRS stands for a compiled proxy ruleset used by Clash.Meta.

The Friction: Unlike the human-readable YAML configuration files, the .MRS version is binary-compiled for performance. You cannot open this in Notepad++ to edit a rule; you will only see garbled text.
Conversion Targets: The workflow is usually one-way: you edit the source YAML file and compile it to .MRS. Reverse conversion (decompiling .MRS to YAML) is possible only with specific command-line utilities provided by the Clash framework.

3. 3D Design & Interior Layouts

Software like 2020 Fusion (kitchen design) and Magicplan use .MRS files to store room attributes or scenes.

• Magicplan: These are often valid ZIP archives in disguise. Try renaming the extension from .mrs to zip and opening it to access the internal XML data and images.
• 2020 Fusion: These are proprietary database files. To share these designs with clients who don't own the expensive software, you should export them from the native application to PDF (for viewing) or DWG (for CAD interoperability).
