About RVL files

The .RVL extension is a container for data rather than a universal media format, creating significant confusion for users. The most frequent origin is Logixoft Revealer Keylogger, where the file acts as an encrypted or plain-text log of user activity, capturing keystrokes and application usage. These files are designed to be read by the host software, making them difficult to parse manually if you are auditing security or recovering lost text. Users often need to convert these logs to TXT or CSV to analyze the data in standard text editors or spreadsheets like Microsoft Excel.

Another common source is Muvee Reveal (and its successor Reveal X), where the .RVL file is an XML-based project file. A critical friction point here is that users expect a video file they can play, but the RVL only contains references to photos and clips, not the media itself. You cannot convert this directly to MP4 or AVI without the original source assets and the Muvee software to render it. However, the internal data can be viewed by converting the file to XML or TXT. Legacy formats include defunct Adobe Revel library databases and EBP Compta accounting imports. For archiving or reviewing log data without specialized software, converting to PDF or plain TXT is the most pragmatic workflow.
