About OCS files
The .ocs file format serves two completely distinct purposes in the software world. Most commonly, it is used as a game save file for the open-world survival game Craftopia. These files store player progress, items, and world states using internal GZIP compression. Alternatively, an .ocs file acts as a hardware and software inventory data report generated by OCS Inventory NG. IT administrators use these files to collect system specifications from client machines and back up asset databases. In rare cases, the extension is also used for custom skill palettes in Phantasy Star Online.
Users often need to open or convert .ocs files to analyze IT hardware reports, extract inventory data into a spreadsheet, or modify game saves. The major disadvantage of the .ocs format is its structural ambiguity. Because different applications use the exact same extension for entirely different data types (GZIP, zlib, or raw XML), your operating system does not know how to handle them. You cannot natively read a compressed .ocs file without specialized tools, locking your data behind proprietary or archived structures.
For OCS Inventory files, the most practical conversion targets are XML, CSV, or TXT. These formats allow you to import asset logs directly into databases or spreadsheet applications like Microsoft Excel. For Craftopia files, "conversion" usually means extracting the underlying GZIP archive to modify the raw save data, though this risks corrupting the game state.
Because the .ocs extension lacks a universal standard, standard online converters almost always fail. They cannot distinguish between a zlib-compressed hardware report and a GZIP-compressed game save. Our engine inspects the internal headers to identify the true underlying format, allowing you to view and extract your data safely.

The OCS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OCS converter.
