About LT2 files
The .lt2 file extension is most frequently associated with the LanTEK II series of cable certifiers, originally manufactured by IDEAL Industries (now TREND Networks). These files serve as cabling management project files, storing comprehensive test results for copper and fiber optic network installations. Field technicians use these files to validate that cabling meets ISO/TIA standards (e.g., Cat 6, Cat 6A).
A key limitation of .lt2 files is their proprietary nature; they are binary containers that cannot be opened by standard office software or text editors. To view or process the data, users typically require the legacy IDEAL Data Center (IDC) software or the newer TREND AnyWARE desktop application. Users frequently face difficulties when trying to share these results with clients who expect universal formats like PDF or CSV and do not have the specialized certification software installed. Converting .lt2 files to PDF is the standard workflow for generating professional certification reports.
A secondary, less common use for this extension is as a Poser Light Set File. Used by Poser (currently owned by Bondware), these text-based files store lighting configurations - including intensity, color, and position data - for 3D scenes. While these are technically editable in a text editor, they are intended to be loaded directly into the Poser library to illuminate 3D character models.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LT2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted PZ2, PPZ and MCZ files.
The LT2 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LT2 converter.
