About RIF files
The .RIF extension most frequently designates a Painter Raster Image, the native project format for Corel Painter. These files are designed to emulate natural media, storing deep technical data such as wet/dry paint layers, canvas textures, watercolor flow maps, and floating objects. While this richness is essential for digital artists during creation, it is a key problem for sharing; .RIF files are often large, uncompressed, and completely unsupported by web browsers, mobile devices, and even standard image viewers like Windows Photos. To share your artwork on the web, conversion to WebP or PNG is necessary to reduce file size and ensure visibility. For cross-platform editing - specifically if moving a project to Adobe Photoshop - converting to PSD is critical to retain layer structure, though some Painter-specific dynamic layer effects may be rasterized.
A secondary but common use for this extension is the MikroTik Support File, generated by RouterOS devices. These files are diagnostic dumps used by MikroTik support to troubleshoot network hardware. They are typically binary or proprietary text formats not meant for standard text editors; converting these to TXT or viewing them requires specialized log analyzers or submission to technical support teams.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RIF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted RIFF, RTF, TIF, RLF, FIF, RAF, RIS, JFIF, PDF, DOC, JPG, SNAGX and PNG files.
The RIF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RIF converter.
