The most technically significant use is as a compiled story file for TADS 2 (Text Adventure Development System). In this context, the file is a binary executable containing an entire interactive fiction game, designed to be run by an interpreter like Gargoyle or Frotz. You cannot convert these directly to readable text documents like DOCX because they contain programming logic, not just static text.

However, in the context of RPGs like Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale, the .GAM file is a proprietary saved game or party roster generated by BioWare's Infinity Engine. These files are strictly formatted binaries that lock your character stats and inventory inside specific hex structures. Users typically need to modify these using specialized tools like GateKeeper or NearInfinity rather than standard converters. Friction arises when users attempt to open these in text editors, resulting in unreadable encoding errors.

For Text Adventures (TADS): Do not attempt to convert to PDF or Word. Instead, use a universal interpreter to play the file on modern systems.
