About RFL files

The .RFL file is primarily a proprietary Reason ReFill Sound Bank used by Reason to store audio samples, instrument patches, and loops in a highly compressed archive. Secondary uses include game resource parameter files for the Sega Hedgehog Engine and UnityFS-based level maps for the game Ravenfield. The main disadvantage of the .RFL format is its heavily restricted, closed nature. ReFill files require a paid music production software license to open and are intentionally encrypted to protect the copyright of sound designers. Users often want to convert .RFL to WAV, AIFF, or MID to use the audio in other DAWs like Ableton Live or FL Studio. However, standard online converters fail to process these files because of this proprietary encryption. Because this file format is so strictly controlled, it is difficult to open or convert outside of its native ecosystem. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. Despite these severe limitations, you can just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible on convert.guru. Our system can inspect the binary headers to confirm if your file is a Reason bank, a Sonic resource, or a Ravenfield UnityFS map. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format that lacks encryption, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.
