Extract text from Reason projects (REASON)

A .reason file is the proprietary project format used by Reason, a digital audio workstation (DAW) developed by Reason Studios (formerly Propellerhead). These files act as containers for the famous "Reason Rack," storing MIDI note data, synthesizer patch settings, sampler zones, effects chain routing, and automation curves. They are not standard audio files; you cannot play them in media players like VLC or Windows Media Player, nor can you upload them directly to streaming services.
The primary problem for users is this proprietary lock-in. A .reason file requires the specific version of the Reason software (and often the exact Rack Extensions installed) to generate any sound. If you cancel your subscription or lack the license, your music is effectively trapped inside the file. Additionally, these files can become quite large if they embed high-quality audio recordings.
For distribution and listening, the only viable path is to open the project in the host software and export (convert) the output to WAV (for uncompressed mastering), MP3 (for web sharing), or FLAC. For collaboration with other DAWs like Ableton Live or Pro Tools, users should export "stems" (individual track renders) or convert the musical notes to Standard MIDI Files (S.M.F / MID).
