About REPP files
A .repp file is not a standard document or image format; it is a critical symptom of a cybersecurity infection. These files are legitimate user data (such as JPG photos, DOCX Word documents, or PDF files) that have been maliciously encrypted by the STOP/Djvu ransomware family.
Users typically encounter this file type after noticing their personal files are suddenly renamed and inaccessible. The STOP/Djvu virus uses a strong AES-256 encryption algorithm to lock the file's contents, making them unreadable by standard software like Microsoft Word or Adobe Photoshop. Simply renaming the file to remove the .repp extension will not unlock the data.
To "convert" these files back to their original state, you cannot use a standard file converter. Instead, you must use specific decryption utilities. If the malware used an "offline key" (meaning it couldn't connect to its command server), the Emsisoft Decryptor can often recover the files for free. However, if an "online key" was used, cryptographic restoration is mathematically impossible without the criminal's private key. In such cases, the only pragmatic conversion workflow is to restore from an external Backup or attempt to recover shadow copies using forensic tools like PhotoRec.
Convert.Guru analyzes your REPP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert REPP file to BASE64, HEX, BIN, ENC, CRYPT, AES, DES, RSA, PGP, GPG, ASC or KEY, you can use Emsisoft Decryptor or similar software from the "Ransomware Encrypted File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert CER, BIN, PEM, DER, KEY, P7S, PFX, ENC, P12, BASE64, P7B or HEX files to REPP, try Emsisoft Decryptor or another comparable tool in the "Ransomware Encrypted File" category.
The REPP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our REPP converter.
