About RDX files

The .RDX file extension is heavily fragmented and used for entirely different purposes depending on the software environment. It most commonly functions as an R Programming Language lazy-load data index, a Thai Revenue Department tax e-filing compressed data archive, or a proprietary security video format generated by ZOSI Smart DVR systems. It is also utilized by Applied Systems Associates for rebar detailing data (XML) and MedHub for CAE LearningSpace healthcare simulation assessments.

The primary disadvantage of the .RDX format is its complete lack of standardization. An .RDX file created by a ZOSI camera contains raw video streams that standard media players like VLC cannot play without specific codecs or the official ZOSI player. Similarly, an .RDX tax file from Thailand is actually a restricted ZIP archive containing encrypted tax records, and R package lazy-load files are GZIP compressed databases strictly tied to the R runtime environment. These files are rigid, proprietary, and often useless outside their native applications.

Converting .RDX files depends entirely on their origin. ZOSI video files usually need to be converted to MP4 or AVI for standard playback, though this often requires the original DVR software. Rebar detailing files can be safely renamed to XML or converted to CSV for spreadsheet analysis. R data indexes should remain untouched to prevent corrupting the R environment.

Because this file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert, standard online converters usually fail. Emphasize that often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format (like ZIP, XML, or GZIP), viewing or conversion may still be possible. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RDX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DRX, RDB, RDS, JPG, RMD, R and RNW files.

The RDX Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RDX converter.
