About RDR files

The .RDR file extension is primarily a proprietary Drive Image Backup created by R-Tools R-Drive Image. It contains an exact byte-by-byte copy of a hard drive, partition, or logical disk. A secondary, less common use is for Remote Desktop Manager Report Settings files generated by Devolutions Remote Desktop Manager.

The main disadvantage of the .RDR backup format is its highly proprietary nature. These files are typically hundreds of gigabytes in size and completely unreadable by native operating systems like Windows or macOS. You cannot browse them in standard file managers without purchasing and installing the specific R-Drive Image software. They are difficult to share, prone to corruption if interrupted during creation, and lock your data into a single vendor's ecosystem.

Users typically want to convert .RDR files to standardized virtual disk formats like VHD, VHDX, or ISO, or they simply want to extract their internal documents, like JPG or DOCX files. If dealing with the Devolutions settings file, users often want to export the data to XML or CSV for easier reading.

Because the disk backup is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process it. Often, only the original software can properly read, mount, or export the data. If our analysis detects the smaller text-based settings file, viewing or conversion to common text formats may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RDR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ISO, RAR, DMG, STUDIO3, JPG and VHD files.

The RDR Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RDR converter.
