Convert RDD to another file type

To convert RDD data dictionaries to another format, you need Visual FoxPro or other Developer software.

Convert a file to RDD

To convert other file formats to the "Database Driver or Dictionary" file type, you need software like Visual FoxPro or a similar tool.

About RDD files

The .RDD file extension is primarily associated with two distinct formats: a Replaceable Database Driver used by legacy database systems like CA-Clipper and Visual FoxPro, and a Report Data Dictionary file generated by EnergyPlus, an advanced building energy simulation engine. FoxPro driver files contain compiled executable code used to interface with different database structures. Conversely, EnergyPlus files store definitions for output variables available during thermal simulations.

Both forms of .RDD files present significant usability challenges. The FoxPro drivers are proprietary, legacy binary files (using an internal EXE format) that cannot be opened or utilized without the original, discontinued database environment. They are completely useless to modern applications and contain no user data. EnergyPlus dictionary files, while often plain ASCII text, are strictly formatted for the EnergyPlus engine and hold no meaning outside of a building simulation context.

Because of their highly specific and proprietary nature, converting .RDD files is practically impossible using standard online tools. FoxPro drivers cannot be converted into data tables like CSV or SQL because they are executable drivers, not database records. EnergyPlus dictionary files might be viewed as TXT, but cannot be meaningfully converted into spreadsheets without running the actual simulation.

This file format is difficult to open or convert. Emphasize that often only the original software can properly read or export the data. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RDD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted STS, BTF, PVP and LIST files.

FAQ

If you want to convert RDD file to LIST, MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WMA, M4A, AIFF, OPUS, ALAC or APE, you can use Visual FoxPro or similar software from the "Database Driver / Simulation Dictionary" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert MIDI, AAC, TTA, AU, WV, DTS, MID, FLAC, RA, MP3, PCM or WAV files to RDD, try Visual FoxPro or another comparable tool in the "Database Driver / Simulation Dictionary" category.

The RDD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RDD converter.
