Convert RDD to another file type
To convert RDD data dictionaries to another format, you need EnergyPlus or other Data software.
Convert a file to RDD
To convert other file formats to the "Simulation Output" file type, you need software like EnergyPlus or a similar tool.
About RDD files
The .RDD file extension is most commonly associated with the Report Data Dictionary generated by EnergyPlus, the industry-standard energy simulation engine. This file acts as a comprehensive catalog, listing every possible output variable (often numbering in the thousands) that a specific building simulation model is capable of calculating.
Users typically encounter friction because .RDD files are raw, unstructured plain text. Navigating a list of 10,000+ variables in Notepad to find specific data points like "Zone Mean Air Temperature" is inefficient and error-prone. To streamline the workflow, users often convert .RDD files to CSV or Microsoft Excel formats. This allows for filtering, sorting by variable type, and bulk copy-pasting into the IDF (Input Data File) to request specific outputs for the final report.
In legacy computing contexts, .RDD can also refer to a Replaceable Database Driver used by systems like CA-Clipper and Visual FoxPro. These are binary system components or executables that allow the software to interface with different database formats (e.g., .DBF, .NTX). These driver files are proprietary system dependencies and cannot be converted or opened by users.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RDD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert RDD file to LIST, MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WMA, M4A, AIFF, OPUS, ALAC or APE, you can use EnergyPlus or similar software from the "Simulation Variable Dictionary" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MIDI, AAC, TTA, AU, WV, DTS, MID, FLAC, RA, MP3, PCM or WAV files to RDD, try EnergyPlus or another comparable tool in the "Simulation Variable Dictionary" category.
The RDD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RDD converter.
