About RCF files

The .rcf file extension primarily functions as either a Radical Cement File for video game assets or a VPN Configuration File for SonicWall network clients. As a game resource container initially developed by Radical Entertainment, it packs 3D models, textures, and audio into a single large archive to optimize loading times. Alternatively, as a VPN profile, it stores connection parameters, server addresses, and security certificates for the SonicWall Global VPN Client. You may also encounter it as a remote control definition for the RCoid application or a RAD Game Tools resource.

The main disadvantage of .rcf files is their proprietary and restrictive nature. Game containers are packed binary files that exceed hundreds of megabytes and cannot be natively browsed by standard file explorers. They offer zero interoperability and require game-specific modding tools to unpack. Similarly, VPN configurations are tightly coupled to the SonicWall ecosystem, often containing encrypted data that prevents easy migration to other VPN clients.

Users typically want to extract game archives to standard formats like PNG for textures or WAV for audio. For network setups, users attempt to convert them to generic XML or OVPN files. However, because these formats rely on closed-source compression, proprietary indexing, or encryption, standard online converters fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RCF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XCF, TXT, RTF, XML, ZIP, TSX, BBL, S, BST, RPM and G files.

The RCF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RCF converter.
