About QMG files
The .QMG file extension represents the proprietary Samsung Qmage image format, a highly compressed raster graphic container developed by Quramsoft (now Fingram) exclusively for Samsung devices. Unlike standard image formats, QMG files are deeply integrated into the Samsung Android framework (One UI and TouchWiz) to render system-level graphics, most notably the animated boot logos (bootsamsung.qmg), shutdown sequences, and theme assets.
While efficient for embedded storage, .QMG files create significant friction for users: they are completely incompatible with standard desktop software like Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Photos, or web browsers. A common frustration occurs when Android enthusiasts attempt to customize their device; simply renaming a standard ZIP boot animation to .QMG results in a boot loop because the internal structure is fundamentally different. To view, edit, or customize these graphics, they must be converted to interoperable formats. For static asset editing, converting to PNG is essential to preserve transparency. For reviewing boot sequences without flashing them to a device, converting the multi-frame QMG container to GIF or MP4 is the only viable solution.
Convert.Guru analyzes your QMG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert QMG file to ZIP, JPG, PDF, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, TIF, WEBP, ICO, CUR or PSD, you can use Samsung One UI or similar software from the "Samsung Boot Animation Graphic" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RAW, PNG, AI, NEF, PSB, DNG, SVG, GIF, EPS, JPG, ARW or PDF files to QMG, try Samsung One UI or another comparable tool in the "Samsung Boot Animation Graphic" category.
The QMG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our QMG converter.
