The .pxw file extension refers to two distinct, proprietary formats that most modern systems cannot recognize without specific software.
The most common use (approx. 53%) is as a game data file within the Starshine Legacy series (the predecessor to Star Stable). These files serve as localization containers, storing the text dialogues and quest strings used in the game. Because they are compiled specifically for the game engine, they are unreadable by standard text editors. Users typically encounter these when attempting to mod the game, translate dialogue, or extract script data. The only practical way to view this content is to convert the file to a plain TXT or CSV format.
The second variation (approx. 17%) is a project file created by Pixie, an educational creativity software by Tech4Learning. These files function similarly to a slide presentation, containing vector drawings, text, stickers, and sometimes voice recordings used by students for storytelling. Since the desktop version of Pixie has largely been replaced by the web-based Wixie, opening old .pxw projects is difficult. The best solution for preservation is converting these "digital stories" into accessible formats like PDF for reading, JPG for image sharing, or PPTX (PowerPoint) for presentation.
