About PXL files

The .pxl extension primarily denotes a Pocket Excel Spreadsheet, a legacy binary format generated by Microsoft Pocket Excel on Windows CE, Pocket PC, and early Windows Mobile PDAs. These files were the mobile standard for data entry before the smartphone era.

However, users attempting to access these files today face a significant barrier: modern versions of Microsoft Excel (2013 and later) have completely removed support for the .pxl format. Opening them directly often triggers "file format not valid" errors, leaving your historical data locked inside an obsolete container. Unlike standard XLS files, .pxl files lack support for advanced features like macros or complex formatting, often requiring a conversion bridge to be readable again.

Occasionally, a .pxl file may be a Canon PageComposer overlay file or an HP PCL XL printer command file. These are not spreadsheets but vector-based print instructions used by specific hardware drivers.
