About POS files

The .POS file extension is notoriously fragmented, serving as a container for completely unrelated data types depending on the industry. Most commonly, a .POS file acts as a JSON-based workflow diagram generated by ProcessOn, a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) component placement file used by KiCad, or a raw GPS/GNSS coordinate log from surveying tools like RTKLIB or Trimble. It is also occasionally used for 3D character poses in Marvelous Designer and Apache Lucene search index positions.

Because .POS lacks a universal standard, operating systems simply do not know how to open it. A .POS file from a surveyor contains geospatial coordinates, while one from a developer contains flowchart code. You cannot open a KiCad footprint table in ProcessOn, and forcing the file open in the wrong software leads to errors. This creates major bottlenecks for teams trying to share schematics or mapping data with non-technical clients or external vendors.

To share these files securely and ensure they remain readable, you must convert them. For ProcessOn diagrams, convert .POS to PDF or SVG for high-quality web viewing. For KiCad and GNSS tracking data, convert to CSV or TXT to make the coordinate tables instantly accessible in Microsoft Excel.

Convert.Guru analyzes your POS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted VPOSARCHIVE, POSF, QDX, PDF, ZIP, COM, PS, TXT, CSV, PNG, BIN, SLDDRW and BAK files.

The POS Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our POS converter.
