About POS files

The .pos file extension is a chameleon in the digital world, serving multiple distinct purposes that often confuse users trying to open them. Most commonly, it represents a Diagram or Workflow file created by tools like ProcessOn or draw.io, storing visual vector data in JSON or XML structures. Alternatively, in engineering workflows, it is a PCB Component Position file generated by KiCad or a GNSS Position Data file from software like RTKLIB.

A common issue with .pos files is this ambiguity; trying to open a binary coordinate file in a text editor, or a JSON diagram in a spreadsheet, results in unintelligible garbage or error messages. Furthermore, diagram files are often locked into proprietary web platforms, making offline viewing impossible without an active internet connection or subscription. Engineering position files are typically raw text, which is difficult to analyze or import directly into standard reporting tools.

To overcome these hurdles, users should convert their files based on content. For diagrams, converting to PDF, SVG, or PNG ensures the image is preserved and viewable on any device. For PCB, GPS, or Point of Sale data, converting to CSV or Excel (XLSX) transforms raw coordinates into sortable, actionable spreadsheets.

Convert.Guru analyzes your POS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted VPOSARCHIVE, POSF, QDX, PDF, ZIP, COM, PS, TXT, CSV, PNG, BIN, SLDDRW and BAK files.

The POS Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our POS converter.
