Convert a file to POLICY
To convert other file formats to the "Security Configuration File" file type, you need software like Oracle Java or a similar tool.
About POLICY files
A .POLICY file typically functions as a configuration script governing security permissions, most commonly within the Oracle Java environment. In the Java context, these files act as gatekeepers, explicitly granting permissions - such as file system access or network connectivity - to specific code sources via a text-based syntax. A major limitation for administrators and developers is that while these files are technically plain text, they often lack default file associations in Windows or macOS, forcing users to manually select a text editor every time they need to inspect a rule. Furthermore, newer versions of the JDK have deprecated GUI-based policy tools, leaving users to wrangle raw syntax manually. Beyond Java, the extension is also used by Microsoft .NET for assembly redirection (often structured as XML) and by Group Policy Object (GPO) tools to display legal notices (sometimes as HTML). Because these files define critical system behavior, opening them accidentally in a rich-text processor (like Word) can introduce formatting errors that break the configuration. For safe viewing, auditing, or archiving, users should convert .POLICY files to TXT for universal compatibility, XML for syntax highlighting in developer tools, or PDF to create unalterable records for security compliance audits.
Convert.Guru analyzes your POLICY file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert POLICY file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use Oracle Java or similar software from the "Security Configuration Rules" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to POLICY, try Oracle Java or another comparable tool in the "Security Configuration Rules" category.
The POLICY Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our POLICY converter.
