About PLZ files

A .PLZ file typically represents one of two distinct formats that cause user frustration due to their opacity. The most common variant (25%) is a Dynapp application data package, which is frequently just a standard ZIP archive in disguise. These files contain raw application data or software updates (often for Dynavin automotive systems or mobile apps) but are locked behind the custom extension to prevent accidental tampering. The second major variant (18%) is a compressed Project Plan or Plot file generated by Allplan, a high-end BIM/CAD solution by Nemetschek.

Users often encounter .PLZ files when trying to manually update firmware or when receiving architectural archives. The friction arises because standard tools like WinRAR or Adobe Acrobat do not natively recognize the extension. For Dynapp files, the pragmatic solution is often to rename the file to ZIP to inspect the contents. For Allplan CAD files, direct conversion is required: convert to PDF for client review, or DWG/DXF to edit the geometry in software like AutoCAD.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PLZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted JPG, STZ, OMS and DB0 files.

The PLZ Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PLZ converter.
