About BPB files
The .BPB file extension represents two distinct file types used in very different industries.
1. NAB BPAY Batch File (Financial)
The most common use (approx. 59%) is the Bank Payment Batch file used by the National Australia Bank (NAB) for their DEFT Payment System. These are structured ASCII text files containing a list of bill payments (BPAY) that a business wants to process in bulk. They are uploaded to NAB Connect to execute hundreds of transactions at once.
Common Friction Point: Because these files use a strict, fixed-width layout or specific delimiters for banking security, they are difficult for humans to read. Users often download a 'result' .bpb file from the bank and cannot open it to reconcile their accounts. Converting this file to CSV or XLSX allows accountants to view transaction statuses in Microsoft Excel.
2. PowerDesigner Backup (Enterprise Modeling)
The second type is a Business Process Model Backup created by SAP PowerDesigner (formerly Sybase). This file is an automatic safety copy of a BPM file. It contains XML definitions of business workflows and data structures.
Common Friction Point: These files are often created silently during a crash or autosave. Users trying to open them directly will find they are not recognized by the operating system. To use them, you typically must rename the extension from .bpb back to bpm or use the 'Import' function within the SAP software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BPB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted WEBP, BMP, ABA, BIN, CHD, PDM, OOM and CDM files.
The BPB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BPB converter.
