About PD3 files
The .pd3 file extension primarily functions as either a label design file for Brother P-touch printers or a technical floor plan drawing created in PlanTracer. It is also occasionally utilized to store raw X-ray diffraction data generated by Philips/PANalytical diffractometers. These files encapsulate highly specific print layouts, proprietary vector coordinates, or specialized scientific datasets.
Brother P-touch label files are natively authored and opened using Brother P-touch Editor or PTCreate. Architectural and technical plans rely on Elecosoft PlanTracer or the legacy PlanDesigner 3 software. X-ray diffraction data requires dedicated analytical software, such as HighScore, to interpret the raw diffractogram.
The .pd3 format is notoriously restrictive and closed-source. Standard web browsers, default operating system viewers, and basic image editors are entirely incapable of reading it. Because it is a heavily proprietary format, sharing .pd3 files directly with clients or colleagues almost always results in viewing errors. Recipients are forced to install the exact same hardware-specific drivers or expensive software licenses just to look at a label or floor plan. Generic online converters consistently fail because these files contain device-specific instructions and mathematical coordinates rather than standard visual data.
The most practical conversion targets for .pd3 label layouts and CAD drawings are standard PDF or JPG formats to guarantee universal accessibility. For scientific X-ray data, exporting to CSV or TXT is optimal. However, achieving these conversions usually requires access to the original authoring software.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because its internal architecture is securely locked by its respective developers. Often, only the original application can properly read the file or export the underlying data. You can still use convert.guru as a practical workaround: just drag and drop your .pd3 file to identify the exact format variation, inspect the binary file, and view any available text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PD3 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The PD3 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PD3 converter.
