About PD2 files
The .pd2 file extension is highly fragmented and serves as a proprietary project file for several unrelated software applications. It is most commonly used as a Building Energy Simulation project by eQUEST, a Lighting Control Project by Pharos Designer 2, or an Apparel CAD Pattern file by CLO 3D and CREA Solution. Other niche uses include partial discharge data from Techimp analyzers and DNA primer data from DNAMAN. These files are strictly proprietary project containers. A major disadvantage is that you cannot share a .pd2 file with someone who does not have the exact same specialized software installed. They are closed formats, often requiring expensive licenses to read. Users frequently need to extract the data to standard formats like CSV for data analysis, DXF for CAD patterns, or PDF for reporting. Standard online converters completely fail to process .pd2 files because they lack the specific parsing engines for these specialized tools. Conversion usually requires opening the file in its native software and exporting the project directly. This format is notoriously difficult to convert externally.
