About PCT files
A .PCT (or .PICT) file is primarily a Macintosh Picture file, a legacy graphics container developed by Apple for the classic Mac OS QuickDraw API. These files are unique because they are metafiles, capable of storing both bitmap (raster) images and vector draw commands in a single file. While once the standard for Macintosh clipboards and publishing, the format is now obsolete. The Core Problem: Modern software, including recent versions of macOS (like Sonoma or Ventura) and Windows, has largely dropped support for QuickDraw. This means your old .PCT archives are likely inaccessible, and the files themselves are often uncompressed, resulting in unnecessarily large file sizes. The Solution: To salvage these images, you should convert them immediately. For preservation, convert to PDF or TIFF to maintain quality. For easy viewing and sharing on the web, convert to JPG or PNG.
Secondary Use Case: In the gaming world, a .PCT file may be a texture archive used by the SnowRunner engine developed by Saber Interactive. These are proprietary binary files optimized for game rendering and require specialized extraction tools to edit.

The PCT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PCT converter.
