A .PCR file is primarily a PrintMaster Project file created by Broderbund PrintMaster. It is used to design greeting cards, brochures, and newsletters. It can also represent Real-time PCR experiment data from Bio-Rad CFX Manager, ACE Lab PC-3000 hard drive reports, or PCMark Vantage benchmark results.
The PrintMaster format is a closed, proprietary container based on the Microsoft Compound File Binary Format. This locks your designs inside an outdated software ecosystem. It requires the original software to open, and it is not supported by standard web browsers. Scientific .PCR files are similarly proprietary and strictly tied to expensive thermal cyclers.
Users usually want to convert these to standard image or document formats like PDF, JPG, or PNG to print or share them without needing the original software. For PCMark benchmarks, extracting the underlying XML or text is the goal.
