About PC files
The .PC file extension serves multiple distinct functions, creating a "Russian Roulette" scenario for users trying to open one. Most commonly, it represents a Personal Composer musical score, a legacy file format from discontinued notation software. These files are proprietary binaries, making them impossible to open without the original, outdated Windows software, effectively locking musicians out of their own compositions.
Alternatively, in enterprise and development environments, a .PC file is often an Oracle Pro*C source code file. These contain C or C++ code embedded with SQL statements, intended to be processed by the Oracle Precompiler. Without the expensive Oracle environment, these files appear as complex code that standard text editors may struggle to syntax highlight correctly. Other variants include Point Calendar data files for Android (often Java-based backups) and BeamNG.drive vehicle configurations (JSON data).
Because of this fragmentation, users face significant friction: proprietary software lock-in, version incompatibility, or mobile-only data restrictions. For music scores, the goal is conversion to PDF for printing or MIDI for audio playback. For developer files (Oracle, FANUC, pkg-config), the best target is a clean TXT or PDF document to preserve the code structure for documentation and peer review.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted JBEAM, ASR, BIN, 3DXML, NOT, ABC, NAS, SERVER, LINUX, VM, NVR and TV files.
The PC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PC converter.
