About TV files

The .TV file extension most frequently represents a TV Channel Bouquet List generated by Enigma2-based Linux satellite receivers (e.g., Dreambox, VU+). These are text-based configuration files (often named userbouquet.favourites.tv) that define the organization of channel groups. Users often struggle with these files because they are not playable video files themselves; they are merely strict lists of service references that standard media players cannot interpret. To use these channel lists on modern IPTV players, smartphones, or VLC, the best solution is to convert the .TV bouquet file to M3U or M3U8 playlists.

Alternatively, a .TV file may be a MediaPortal recording metadata file (XML-based) or a legacy Paradox Table View settings file. In the case of MediaPortal, the file accompanies a video recording (like TS or .DVR-MS) but contains only descriptions and show data, rendering it useless for playback on its own. For Paradox database users, these files lock view settings inside a proprietary legacy format.
