About TV files
The .tv file extension serves multiple disjointed purposes across the digital landscape, most notably as an Enigma2 DVB channel bouquet list or a masked video container. In the digital broadcasting world, Enigma2 systems use .tv files to store user-defined lists of TV channels, known as bouquets. This proprietary plaintext structure limits portability outside of specific set-top boxes. Alternatively, DVR software like MediaPortal or MyTV SUPER uses the .tv extension to save recording metadata or raw video streams. In many cases, these video files are simply standard MP4 or MKV containers renamed to .tv to bypass simple scraping tools or restrict playback to proprietary hardware. The fragmentation of the .tv format makes it exceptionally frustrating to manage. Attempting to open a .tv file without knowing its origin often leads to error messages. Enigma2 bouquet files are useless outside of their specific ecosystem without conversion, and renamed video files require a capable player like VLC Media Player to decode the underlying headers.
