About OUD files
The .oud extension represents a split in file usage, most commonly serving as an Embroidery Design Outline created by Tajima DG/ML by Pulse (now Pulse Microsystems), or as User Data generated by Olympus medical endoscopes and cameras.
For embroidery professionals, the .oud file is the source "master" file containing vector-based outlines and stitch properties. The primary disadvantage is that this is not a machine-readable format. You cannot load an .oud file directly into an embroidery machine; it must first be compiled (digitized) into a stitch file like DST or PES. Because the format is proprietary to Pulse software, opening it without a license (which can cost thousands) is nearly impossible. Users often need to convert these outlines to standard vectors like SVG or DXF for use in Adobe Illustrator, or process them into DST files for production.
Alternatively, if the file originated from Olympus hardware (such as endoscopes or optical units), it contains binary user settings, lens calibration data, or procedure logs. These files are typically locked to the specific device or proprietary viewing software like Olympus Viewer. They are generally incompatible with standard text editors. For these files, the goal is often converting the embedded data into readable reports like PDF or structured data like CSV for archiving.
Convert.Guru analyzes your OUD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The OUD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OUD converter.
