About LD files

The .ld extension is a shared filename used primarily for MoTeC Data Logs generated by high-performance ECU and data logging hardware, and secondly for GNU Linker Scripts used in software development.

For motorsports engineers, .ld files contain critical telemetry data (RPM, throttle position, G-force) recorded during track sessions. The primary challenge is that these are proprietary binary files designed exclusively for MoTeC i2 analysis software. They cannot be opened directly in standard spreadsheet tools like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, which creates friction when teams need to share data with sponsors, perform custom calculations, or archive data in open formats. To overcome this lock-in, users should convert .ld logs to CSV or XLSX for data analysis, or MAT for engineering work in MATLAB.

In the development world, an .ld file is a text-based Linker Script processed by the GNU Linker (ld). These scripts control how program sections are mapped to memory. While they are plain text, they often lack default associations with text editors on Windows, leading to "Unknown File" errors. Converting these to TXT ensures universal readability, or to PDF for non-editable documentation.

Less common uses include cached data for Apple macOS Launch Services (often found as com.apple.launchservices.ld) or firmware files for Poly (formerly Polycom) VoIP phones. These are typically system files not intended for manual conversion.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ID, DMI, ZIP, ACSM, LDX, FMF and SD files.

The LD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LD converter.
