About OPL files

The .OPL file extension is used by several distinct systems, most notably as an XML process diagram snapshot generated by the Valmet DNA system. It is also widely used as a call recording playlist in Oak Innovation Record software, a 3D room planner project in pCon.planner, and as specialized data for Optimux Player, SELCO OPTI-PLANNER, and the INIT COPILOT transit system. These highly fragmented, proprietary uses make the .OPL format extremely restrictive. If you receive a .OPL file, you cannot simply double-click it. Without the exact software that created it, the file will fail to open on standard devices. A .OPL file tied to an industrial machine or a dedicated VoIP recording system has zero native support in standard office tools or web browsers. Depending on the actual contents, converting a .OPL file requires specific approaches. For XML-based .OPL files from Valmet or Oak, you can often extract text data or convert them to standard XML or TXT. For pCon.planner project files, which are usually renamed ZIP archives, you might need to extract the 3D models into DWG or OBJ. Unfortunately, proprietary data formats like these are notoriously difficult to process because standard online converters do not understand their specialized structures. The original software is usually required to safely export the data into universally readable formats like PDF or CSV. We analyze the file signature to determine if it is an XML text document, a ZIP archive, or another readable structure. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
