About XPF files
The .xpf file extension is a highly fragmented format utilized by over a dozen unrelated software systems. Most commonly, it acts as an XML Print File containing instrument data reports from Mettler Toledo X-Series analytical scales. It is also widely used as an instrument track settings preset for the open-source digital audio workstation LMMS. Other distinct variations include proprietary cutting plotter data files for Graphtec Studio, textile design files for NedGraphics, and even 3D facial expression data for Singular Inversions FaceGen.
Users typically need to convert .xpf files because they lack the highly specialized software or physical hardware required to open them. Mettler Toledo files require specific laboratory data viewers, while Graphtec files are virtually useless without a connected vinyl cutter. Furthermore, because so many different applications share the exact same .xpf extension, operating systems frequently fail to assign the correct default program, causing immediate errors when you double-click the file.
Converting an .xpf file depends entirely on its source. For XML-based .xpf files (like those from Mettler Toledo or LMMS), the best target formats are standard XML, plain TXT, or PDF for easier sharing and readability. For vector-based plotter files, exporting to standard SVG or DXF is preferred, though specialized hardware instructions like blade pressure and cut speed will be permanently lost during conversion.
Why are .xpf files notoriously difficult to open or convert? The primary issue is format collision - there is no single standard for an .xpf file. A standard online converter will immediately fail because it cannot guess if the file contains a 3D facial expression, a textile embroidery pattern, or raw XML scale data. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the proprietary binary data. We inspect the file's internal signature, and if our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format (like plain XML text), viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your XPF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert XPF file to SVG, AI, EPS, PDF, JPG, CDR, WMF, EMF, SWF, FLA, XFL or SKETCH, you can use Mettler Toledo or similar software from the "XML Configuration & Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert AFPUB, EPS, FIG, VSD, SKETCH, VDX, AFPHOTO, PDF, AFDESIGN, SVG, VSDX or AI files to XPF, try Mettler Toledo or another comparable tool in the "XML Configuration & Data" category.
The XPF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XPF converter.
