The .TRU file extension is heavily fragmented and used by several distinct systems. Most frequently, it functions as a Credential Design Template for Entrust TruCredential software, which is technically a standard ZIP archive containing XML layouts and image assets. It is also used as an electronic cash register or Point of Sale (POS) data file for systems like TrueCafe and Tru-Data, storing proprietary menu and product records. Other distinct uses include Logisim digital logic truth tables, stored as XML, and raw data logs from Train Control Management Systems (TCMS). The primary disadvantage of the .TRU format is its extreme fragmentation. No single program can open all .TRU variants. Furthermore, POS and TCMS variants use proprietary binary encoding that requires expensive, specialized software to read. Standard online converters fail to process .TRU files because they lack the specific decoders for these niche industrial applications.
