About MNY files
The .MNY file is the proprietary database format used by the discontinued Microsoft Money software to store your entire financial history, including accounts, transactions, and budgets. Because Microsoft ceased development in 2009, these files are now effectively "locked boxes" of data that modern operating systems and web browsers cannot natively open. Users typically encounter .MNY files when trying to recover old financial records or migrate to modern tools like Quicken or Excel.
The main downside is that .MNY files are complex, often password-protected databases that cannot be parsed by standard text editors or simple online converters. Direct conversion is nearly impossible without the original software engine. To convert your data, the only reliable workflow is to install the free Microsoft Money Plus Sunset edition to open the file, then export the data to QIF (Quicken Interchange Format) or CSV (Comma Separated Values). For archiving, PDF reports are recommended; for migration to new software, QIF or OFX preserves the most transaction detail.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MNY file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted MBF, OFX, QIF, MONEY, QFX, MS14, QBO, PDF, LNK, QWB and MN8 files.
The MNY Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MNY converter.
