A .OCI file is the proprietary project format created by openCanvas, a popular digital painting software developed by Portalgraphics (PGN Inc.). These files are distinct because they store not just the raster image data, layers, and transparency, but often the unique "Event" data - a scripted recording of every brushstroke used to create the artwork. While this feature is excellent for sharing drawing processes within the openCanvas community, it is a common source of difficulty for interoperability. The .OCI format is closed and lacks native support in industry-standard tools like Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, or standard web browsers. You cannot simply upload an OCI file to social media or open it on a mobile device without conversion.
