Extract text from openCanvas images or backups (WPB)

A .WPB file typically functions as an openCanvas 1.1 Image or a Windows Phone Device Manager Backup File.
Developed by Portalgraphics, early versions of the digital painting software openCanvas (v1.1) used the .WPB format to save raster graphics with layer data and unique "drawing event" playback logs. Alternatively, .WPB files serve as backup archives created by the defunct Windows Phone Device Manager, storing user data, app settings, and media from early Windows Phone devices.
Users need to convert these files because both formats are heavily outdated and highly proprietary. The openCanvas version requires legacy 32-bit software to read, and modern image editors like Adobe Photoshop or GIMP do not support it natively. The Windows Phone backup is tied to a dead mobile ecosystem, making the data inaccessible without the original management utility. For images, converting to PNG, JPG, or PSD is recommended, though you will lose the proprietary stroke playback data. For backups, extracting the contents into standard formats like XML or ZIP is the primary goal.
