About NYF files

An .NYF file is a proprietary database file created by myBase, a comprehensive personal knowledge base and free-form database system developed by Wjj Software. Built upon a structured storage library, it acts as a hierarchical container that stores personal notes, rich text, webpages, emails, images, and embedded file attachments. Internally, the data is compressed using standard zlib compression, making the file highly efficient for managing large amounts of unstructured data in a tree-like outline.

The main disadvantage of the .NYF format is its proprietary, closed nature. Because it acts as a complex virtual file system within a single file, you cannot simply open it with a standard text editor or web browser. Furthermore, reading the internal tree structure natively requires the commercial myBase application. Standard online converters generally fail to process .NYF files because they cannot map a multi-layered database with embedded media into a single flat document.

When sharing or migrating data, users typically need to convert .NYF databases into accessible formats like HTML (which preserves the tree structure for web viewing), plain TXT for simple notes, or EPUB and CHM for e-book readers. Exporting directly to a flat PDF is difficult and often results in losing the embedded attachments or the outline hierarchy.

Because of its proprietary internal structure, converting .NYF files directly using third-party tools is challenging. Emphasize that often only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NYF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted AUC, URD and LUX files.

The NYF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NYF converter.
