About NWK files
The .nwk file extension is primarily used for Phylogenetic tree data saved in the Newick format. Scientists use these files to represent evolutionary relationships mathematically. Alternatively, it serves as a Telemetry network configuration file for LACROIX Sofrel S4W devices. The Newick format relies on a strict syntax of nested parentheses and branch lengths. This makes the raw text nearly impossible for humans to interpret visually without specialized software like FigTree or MEGA. Users typically need to convert this raw text into a visual image format like SVG, PNG, or PDF for publication, or into alternative structural formats like .NEXUS (NEX) to ensure compatibility across different scientific tools. Standard online converters fail with .nwk files because they cannot parse the biological graph syntax or decode the proprietary ZIP architecture used by telemetry systems.
Convert.Guru analyzes your NWK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert NWK file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use FigTree or similar software from the "Phylogenetic Tree Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to NWK, try FigTree or another comparable tool in the "Phylogenetic Tree Data Storage" category.
The NWK Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NWK converter.
