About NW files
A .nw file is an application package created for the NW.js (formerly Node-Webkit) framework, which allows developers to build desktop applications using web technologies like HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. While powerful for cross-platform development, .nw files present significant friction for end-users: they cannot be opened by double-clicking unless the NW.js runtime is pre-installed and configured, and they often appear as unrecognizable binary files to the operating system. Internally, a .nw file is simply a standard ZIP archive containing the application's source code and a package.json manifest. Because of this, users often need to convert or extract these files to access the assets trapped inside. For inspection or asset recovery, the most practical "conversion" is renaming the file to ZIP to unpack image resources (PNG, JPG) and code (JS, HTML). For distribution, developers typically merge the .nw file with the nw.exe binary to create a standalone EXE executable that runs without requiring the user to install separate software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your NW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert NW file to DBM, MW, W, JS, TS, PY, JAVA, CPP, C, CS, PHP or RB, you can use NW.js or similar software from the "Web Application Package" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SH, PY, KT, PS1, SWIFT, LUA, PL, JAVA, SCALA, JS, VBS or TS files to NW, try NW.js or another comparable tool in the "Web Application Package" category.
The NW Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NW converter.
