A .npp file is a highly fragmented file extension primarily used as a desktop publishing project document. It is most commonly associated with Art Explosion Publisher Pro or Serif PagePlus. These files contain complex page layouts, vector graphics, text formatting, and embedded raster images used for creating brochures, flyers, and newsletters. Less commonly, the .npp extension is used for Express Points presentation files by NCH Software, or as an executable plugin file for Nitro PDF Pro.
Sharing a .npp file is incredibly frustrating in the real world. It is a closed, proprietary format that requires the recipient to have the exact same software installed. If you send a .npp file to a colleague, they will likely see a blank icon and encounter a "Windows cannot open this file" error. These files are not supported by modern web browsers, standard document viewers, or mobile devices. Furthermore, much of the software used to create them, like Serif PagePlus, has been completely discontinued, making it difficult to even purchase the right application today.
To share these layouts, you must convert the .npp file to a universal format. The best conversion targets are PDF for preserving the print-ready layout, or JPG and PNG for sharing digital previews.
