About RSV files

The .RSV file format is primarily known as a video recovery file generated by Sony digital cameras and Cinema Line models. When you record a video, the camera temporarily writes the raw data into an .RSV file container. Once recording stops normally, the camera finalizes this data into a playable MP4 or MXF file. If the camera loses power, crashes, or the SD card is removed prematurely, the file remains stuck as an unfinalized .RSV. These files are highly problematic because they lack the standard header metadata required for playback. Media players like VLC cannot open them, and they are completely unreadable by standard video editors. Standard online video converters will fail to process .RSV files because there is no valid codec header to decode the stream. To successfully convert an .RSV file to an MP4, you typically need specialized video repair software and a "reference" video from the same camera to rebuild the missing header. Secondarily, .RSV files are used as data recovery session files in software like R-Studio Data Recovery and GetData Recover My Files. Because this file format is essentially a broken or proprietary data stream, it is very difficult to open or convert normally. Our tool can inspect the internal file structure and extract raw text or embedded data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying format or a recoverable media stream, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RSV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted GDACTREQUEST, RV, RVS, MP4, SRV, RCV, DOCX, CSV, RVZ, ACSM, CRDOWNLOAD, CHD and FLP files.
