To convert other file formats to the "Mobile Phonebook Archive" file type, you need software like Nokia PC Suite or a similar tool.
The .NPF file extension is heavily fragmented, meaning it serves entirely different purposes depending on the software that created it. Most frequently, it acts as a Phonebook backup database file generated by legacy mobile management tools like Nokia PC Suite or Samsung PC Studio. In other contexts, it functions as an Interior design project file used by architectural software like CAD Projekt K&A or Sweet Home 3D, or as a compressed resource archive for the Nitroplus visual novel game engine.
These formats present severe limitations. They are highly proprietary and often locked to obsolete software. For example, Nokia and Samsung phonebook files are wrapped in a closed JetDB database structure. CAD project files store proprietary 3D environment data and binary object coordinates that standard viewers cannot interpret. Users who simply want to read an old contact list or share a 3D floor plan face significant hurdles, often requiring outdated legacy apps or expensive software licenses just to open the file.
To make this data usable, conversion is mandatory. Phonebook backups should ideally be converted to standard VCF (vCard) or CSV files, which can be easily imported into Google Contacts or modern smartphones. CAD interior design projects are best exported to PDF, JPG, or standard 3D formats like OBJ.
Because of the proprietary nature of these formats, standard online converters usually fail. They cannot parse the closed binary of a CAD layout or decrypt the underlying database of an old mobile backup. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, there is a pragmatic workaround.
