The .NMF file extension suffers from extreme format collision, meaning it is used by several completely different software applications. Its most common use is as a proprietary call recording audio file generated by enterprise systems like NICE Systems or mobile apps like the NLL Call Recorder. Alternatively, it is utilized as an ArcGIS Explorer Map Document by Esri, a 3D model file in games like Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic, or a network measurement log from Keysight Nemo.
These proprietary formats present massive disadvantages. The audio files rely on closed compression codecs designed to prevent tampering with legal or customer service call records, making them impossible to play in standard media players like VLC. The GIS map files are locked to older ArcGIS desktop ecosystems, preventing easy web sharing. Users must convert these files to bypass these artificial limits - converting audio to MP3 or WAV for universal playback, 3D models to OBJ or FBX for editing in Blender, and mapping data to KML or standard XML to migrate out of the Esri environment.
Because most .NMF files are closed and securely wrapped, standard online converters generally fail to process them. Often, only the original enterprise software can properly read or export the data.
