About NG files
The .ng file extension primarily represents either a legacy Norton Guides database file or a NeuroGuide EEG data file. Norton Guides were heavily used in the MS-DOS era to provide memory-resident reference documentation for programmers. NeuroGuide files, on the other hand, store complex electroencephalogram (brainwave) recordings analyzed by medical professionals and researchers.
You can open legacy Norton Guides using specialized readers in emulators like DOSBox, or view EEG data using NeuroGuide by Applied Neuroscience, Inc. In some instances, an .ng file is simply a truncated PNG image file created by an error during a download or email attachment save.
Both primary formats pose significant challenges for modern users. Norton Guides are heavily obsolete, locking valuable legacy documentation behind decades-old software architecture. NeuroGuide files are structured specifically for expensive medical software suites, making them completely inaccessible to standard text editors or generic data viewers. Standard online converters almost always fail to process them because they lack the highly specialized parsing logic required for these niche binary structures.
For Norton Guides, extraction to TXT or HTML is the ideal target to recover text, though legacy formatting will likely be lost. For EEG data, exporting to EDF (European Data Format) or CSV is preferred for cross-platform scientific research. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - like a truncated PNG image - viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your NG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert NG file to MG, PG, G, EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4 or BSP, you can use NeuroGuide or similar software from the "Legacy Database / EEG Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to NG, try NeuroGuide or another comparable tool in the "Legacy Database / EEG Data" category.
The NG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NG converter.
