About NDF files

The .NDF file extension is highly fragmented, serving completely different primary use cases depending on the software environment. In enterprise environments, it is predominantly a Secondary Database Data File used by Microsoft SQL Server to store data that exceeds the capacity of the primary MDF file. In consumer environments, particularly in Asia, .NDF is used by companies like NetEase to obfuscate cached media, such as MP4 videos for dictionary pens, or PNG and JPG images for music applications and emulators. Other niche uses include Nikon Dust Off Reference Photos, RapidFire Tools network assessments (which are underlying ZIP files), and NanoDrop spectrophotometer reports. Because of this fragmentation, the format suffers from severe compatibility issues. SQL Server files are completely useless without their corresponding master file, and proprietary media caches lock users into specific apps by intentionally breaking standard file associations. You cannot natively open these files in web browsers or standard media players. When converting, SQL data must be exported to CSV or SQL dumps via the database engine itself. Media caches should be converted to standard MP4, PNG, or JPG formats to restore cross-platform compatibility. Because this file format is difficult to open or convert due to its fragmented nature, standard online converters often fail. Emphasize that often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NDF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted NDFBIN, ZIP, CDF, MDF, NDR, NWD, BAK, TRN and RDL files.

The NDF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NDF converter.
